What A Difference A Good DSLR Makes!

Scott has been having fun with our  Nikon D5100, and we're both marveling over what a difference there is in the photos he can take with the Nikon versus our point-and-shoot Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1.

Last week, I shared one of his many photos of fireworks from the Fourth of July.

Yesterday, our 7.5-year-old daughter went to a gymnastics birthday party, and Scott brought along the Nikon, and wow! I couldn't believe the action shots he managed to capture! Our point-and-shoot is a great camera, but it isn't good at capturing people in motion. The Nikon is a whole different story though!

There's no way our point-and-shoot would have captured this so perfectly in focus.

Or this one:

That's my girl!

Scott went a little crazy, taking 450 photos at this party more for the experience with the camera and how it works than to document the party. I think he captured every single guest at the party with their feet off the ground at least once! :-)

These photos, more than anything else, convince me that it's worth it to get a DSLR. And okay, maybe it's not absolutely necessary for product photos, the ostensible reason we bought it, but oh, it's going to make a world of difference when shooting sporting events!

What kind of camera do you use?
